Looking back, moving forward:
The legacy of Jake and Barb Vos
In 1982, Clarence “Jake” Vos and his wife Barb embarked on the entrepreneurial adventure of a lifetime by founding Vos Glass, Inc. Partners who balanced one another both at work and at home, they recognized the importance of hard work and strong relationships. They based their new company on timeless values—pride, integrity, craftsmanship and innovation.
Fair, honest and loyal, Jake (1933—2003) inspired multiple generations of employees, leading by example as Vos Glass, Inc. built a solid reputation for professionalism, quality and service. A veteran of the Korean War, he cared deeply about his country and Grand Rapids, and was well known in and respected by the West Michigan construction community.
Barb (1933—2012) was known for her ability to make everyone feel like family—employees, vendors and customers. She was the strength and the wisdom of Vos Glass, Inc. and the Vos family. Working in the company’s offices until well into her seventies, she saw Vos Glass, Inc. grow three-fold during its third decade under the leadership of Linda Vos-Graham, her daughter.
Today, the business that had modest beginnings at the Vos kitchen table thirty years ago, has grown into West Michigan’s glass leader—a full service company serving the commercial, residential and automotive markets. Much has changed in the glass industry, but the pride, integrity, craftsmanship and innovation Jake and Barb brought to Vos Glass, Inc. continues to guide the company’s path to the future.
